A multi-vehicle crash involving two tractor-trailers and six passenger vehicles on an East Texas interstate left 17 people injured and shut down traffic for hours on Saturday, officials said.
As per news agency AP, Lindale Fire Chief Jeremy LaRue said that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The crash occurred around 4 pm (local time) near Lindale, about 90 miles east of Dallas, along the westbound lanes of Interstate 20.
As per CBS19.TV, a total of 19 people were involved, with 17 taken to area hospitals for treatment. Sgt. Larry Christian with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that westbound traffic on I-20 was blocked to through traffic following the incident.
Chief LaRue said crews remained at the site more than two hours after the accident to clean oil and diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway.
According to CBS19.TV, the blockage began at Jim Hogg Road near mile marker 558, and motorists were advised to avoid the area or seek alternate routes.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of the accident.
