Former US President Joe Biden attended his grandson's high school graduation, making his first public appearance since announcing his prostate cancer diagnosis.
Biden's grandson, Robert Hunter Biden II, graduated from the Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut, on Friday. The teenager's father, Beau Biden, passed away in 2015.
In Instagram photos by former first lady Jill Biden and their daughter Ashley, the ex-president appeared alongside family members to celebrate the high Robert's high school graduation.
One of the photos posted by Jill Biden included the caption, “Proud Nana and Pop! Congratulations Hunter — we are so proud of you.”
In photos Ashley Biden posted later Friday, the 46th commander-in-chief was also spotted at an airport, though it is unclear which airport that was.
Last Sunday, the Democrat announced he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His personal office said in a statement, “President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
Days later, his office released a second statement, in which it noted he had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer prior to last week. The statement also clarified Biden had not been tested for prostate cancer since 2014.
Biden and his family have repeatedly denied allegations his cognitive or physical health was deteriorating while he was in office.
His granddaughter Naomi wrote in a post on X this week that a new book on her grandfather was “a bunch of unoriginal, uninspired lies written by irresponsible self promoting journalists out to make a quick buck.”
She was referring to the book "Original Sin" by CNN's Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson of Axiom. It examines Biden’s health and cognitive abilities during the 2024 presidential campaign, from which he was forced to drop out following his disastrous showing during a debate with Republican rival Donald Trump.
Then-vice president Kamala Harris eventually contested the presidential election but lost to Trump.
