Ovens accumulate grease, spilt foods and particles - it's an inevitability. However, the amount of food spillage and grease that's accumulated really depends on the individuals using the oven, what they're cooking and how often they use the oven. This makes putting a time frame on cleaning your oven quite difficult, because some ovens may be used more frequently than others, whilst different foods are used as well.
It is typically recommended that ovens be cleaned every 12 weeks or whenever homeowners notice stains of burnt-on food. However, for those like Ashley McCrary, otherwise known as @jealthylittlepeach on Instagram, who constantly use their oven but only get around to cleaning it once a year, there are three basic things she relies on.
In her Instagram post, she wrote: "I'm not ashamed to admit.....I clean my oven once a year. So when I clean it, I have to put in the work because it's nasty, y'all!"
She recommends combining washing-up liquid with baking soda and white vinegar to remove oven grease.
Mix half a cup of washing-up liquid with one and a half cups of baking soda and three-quarters of a cup of vinegar in a bowl.
Ashley pointed out that when you add the vinegar, it will "have a reaction". She advised: "Just allow it to sit for a few minutes, and the foam will go down. Add to your oven evenly and allow to sit two to three hours."
After it sits, scrub down, you may need a little elbow grease depending on how dirty.
Ashley instructed, "Use a spray bottle with water if it gets too crusty. Whip down with a damp rag, then remove any residue with paper towels."
One follower in the comments section tried this method out for themselves and found success. @laurasimmons_37 said: "Just finished cleaning my oven with your method! Holy smokes! My oven looks brand new. And when I say it was nasty, I mean it was nasty.
"I let the stuff sit for three hours and then spritzed it with water to soften it up, and then started scraping. Magic! It took some time, but so worth it."
