It's been a summer to forget for Newcastle United. Several transfer targets have come and gone, with the Magpies left scratching around for new additions late in the transfer window.
Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike were both targeted by the North East outfit, but the pair opted for moves elsewhere, joining Manchester United and Liverpool respectively. Things could get even worse for Newcastle though, should talk of an Alexander Isak move to Liverpool transpire.
Liverpool have already seen one bid rejected by the 2025 League Cup winners, with talk they could return to test Newcastle's resolve once more. However, even if Liverpool matches Isak's £150million valuation, Newcastle could be at risk of losing even more players, with clubs said to be sniffing around their top talent.
The i are reporting that Newcastle are aware of tentative interest in Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes. It's suggested that the four harbour ambitions to challenge for trophies year in year out and view themselves as Champions League-level players.
That isn't particularly an issue for Newcastle this season, given they won silverware last year and will be competing in the Champions League. But unless the St. James' Park outfit can deliver it regularly, they could face a battle to keep said players on their hands.
Livramento was rumoured to be under transfer scrutiny from Manchester City earlier in the window, with Pep Guardiola's side believed to have been put off by Newcastle's asking price. Meanwhile, Tonali has been linked with a move back to Italy, just two years after joining from AC Milan for a reported £55m fee.
There has been some movement in the transfer department for Newcastle, with Malick Thiaw expected to finalise a move from Milan in the coming days. What's more, promising Porto striker Samu Aghehowa is being monitored and a move for Yoanne Wissa is still on the cards.
However, manager Eddie Howe claims PSR regulations are still governing his side's business. Speaking over the weekend, he said: "We're controlled by PSR. That's still limiting what we can do and that's the reality.

"I've said many times, we're not the highest payers in the league. We're far from it and that is sometimes reflected in the choices players make. I don't think there's many players who have come here and haven't benefited from the experience Newcastle can give you.
Newcastle return to the pitch this weekend when they face Aston Villa in the opening match of the Premier League season. Following that, it's a highly anticipated clash at St. James' Park against none other than Liverpool. Which side Alexander Isak will be on remains to be seen.
