A Wisconsin mum was allegedly discovered living alongside the decomposing remains of her 10-month-old daughter in a cardboard box and told police that she "had no control over how she died."
Law and Crime reported that on Monday, officers were summoned to the home of 28 year old Shyanna Brothers following a call from a neighbour who reported a foul smell and told authorities that it "smelled as if someone was dead inside."
According to the criminal complaint obtained by The Mirror U.S., police arrived at the property around 1:00 a. m. on August 13, 2025, after receiving the call from the concerned neighbour. The news comes as a video was published showing the moment man was shot after 'hunting police with crossbow'.
The report added that a woman "on scene was reporting that the baby is gone.", reports the Mirror US.
Officer Thomas Wright encountered Brothers and informed her of the reason why they were there.
"Initially, the Defendant claimed that there was old food inside her apartment," the report said.
"Officer Wright informed the Defendant that the Defendant was reported saying to others that her baby was gone," the statement continued.
It was reported that Brothers responded, "Yeah, people lose kids. I lost a child."
According to the statement, Brothers attempted to claim that she was saying "the baby is gone" because she was going through a lot.
Police later asked Brothers if they could search the apartment to which she agreed. Once officers entered the flat, however, Brothers began telling the officers about how a man she was in a "domestic violence relationship" had allegedly killed her child and "has me hiding her in there" whilst pointing to a locked bedroom.
"Officer Wright could detect a strong odour of decomposition coming from inside the locked room," the complaint read.
"Officer Wright forced the bedroom door open, observing the room to be empty except for a large cardboard box in the centre of the floor," the complaint continued.
"The floor was covered with hundreds of dead flies. Inside of the cardboard box, Officer Wright personally observed the body of a deceased infant child in an advanced state of decomposition."
A post-mortem examination of the child revealed that it had suffered a skull fracture with signs consistent with blunt force trauma.
According to Brothers, her alleged boyfriend was responsible for the killing.

The complaint stated that Brothers claimed her life had been threatened if she called the police.
"The Defendant said 'the skull' and then made a throwing motion as if someone threw the baby," the complaint says.
It was reported that police could not find evidence linking a man to living in the residence.
"There was no furniture inside the apartment," the complaint notes.
"Inside a bedroom to the east of the kitchen was an air mattress and a television. In the bedroom located north of the bathroom, there was a large cardboard box that contained the body."
The police later revealed that the body was in an "advanced state of decomposition and was beyond recognition."
The complaint alleged, "Bodily fluids from [the child's] body were soaking the bottom of the cardboard box."
The woman was subsequently taken into custody and interrogated by detectives, who noted her responses began to take a peculiar turn. "I was told I wasn't in trouble," she asserted.
"I had no control over how she died."
She claimed she was "raped in there and forced to hurt my kid and hide the body."
She alleged that people were constantly coming "in and out" of her flat, "raping me and stealing from me.
"He's going to prison for this; he thinks he is a genius," she told detectives. "It may look like it's me, but I will get exonerated.
"Oh God, we f-ed up today," she reportedly said at one point according to the statement. "And then [she] made repeated barking noises.
"She's not even comprehending, they already know, you guys already know I did not kill my child," she stated. "What I'm saying and what you are doing is helping me plead insane you dumb b-,".
"You might as well send me the f- back upstairs," she added. She was being held this week on a $50,000 bond and is awaiting the results of a mental health evaluation.
