Penny Lancaster has revealed what very nearly ended her relationship with Rod Stewart in the early days.
The 54-year-old admitted that she believed her relationship with Rod had a shelf life, but she was planning to just "have fun" with him until she would eventually part ways from the music legend.
She thought to herself that she would "eventually have to bail" on her romance with Rod, Penny told Woman & Home when discussing her memoir, Someone Like Me.
Penny, who has two boys Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14, with Rod, said: "My biggest burning desire was to have a family. I respected that he had been through that enough times, and that might not be where he would want to go again."
At that point, Penny decided they could "enjoy each other", but she would need to bail eventually.

Rod was already a dad of six with four different women, so Penny didn't think it was on the cards, but things swiftly changed and she admitted he regularly tells her he wished they'd started earlier.
Penny even admitted that after having their two, they've discussed adopting, adding: "As if eight children aren't enough! Let's have more!"
The pair started their relationship when Penny was 28, eventually tying the knot in 2007. Now, Penny is currently the age that Rod was when the happy couple first started dating.
They've been married for 18 years and have a successful relationship in the spotlight, but Penny admitted the pair still argue about the "usual stuff".

She explained that Rod will always apologise and remind his sons how important it is to say "I'm sorry".
Both Penny and Rod have always been supportive of one another's career, and Penny has explained that there's no chance of Rod slowing down anytime soon, adding "the word retirement is not on his lips".
He's also been supporting her on her projects, with Penny sharing a photo of the pair posing with her book as she wrote: "Precious memories - so proud to share this special moment of seeing my published book for the first time with my wonderful hubby."
