A huge blaze erupted in Middlesbrough on Monday morning. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a vehicle, seemingly at the centre of the incident. Emergency services received reports of the fire on the morning of June 2, with Cleveland Fire Brigade rushing to the scene.
A statement from Cleveland Police said: "Police were made aware of this vehicle fire via CCTV operators but officers were not required to attend. This was left for Fire Brigade to deal with."
Cleveland Fire Brigade said they were called to incident at 9.45am and so far "one fire engine was in attendance from Grangetown". A spokesperson added that one van was found to be "well alight" and that "breathing apparatus and a hose reel" were used to combat the flames. The fire service said the flames were extinguished by 10.22am but that "firefighters remain at the scene".
