Dutch international defender Tyrell Malacia is set to return to Manchester United next month, following PSV's decision not to make his loan move permanent. Malacia was on loan at PSV for the latter half of last season, making 12 appearances and helping them clinch the Eredivisie title.
However, the 25-year-old failed to impress PSV enough to secure a permanent deal, and they have now confirmed his return to United on July 1. In an official statement, PSV announced: "On July 1, the tenures of Tyrell Malacia and Rick Karsdorp at PSV will expire. Tyrell will return to Manchester United after his rental period, while Rick Karsdorp's expiring contract will not be renewed.
"PSV announced the arrival of Tyrell Malacia on loan from Manchester United on February 4 this year. The 25-year-old winger made 12 appearances in PSV's first team. With the club he captured the first national title of his career."
After spending over a year out due to a knee injury, Malacia returned to the pitch in November during United's Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt.
Despite making eight appearances under Ruben Amorim, he is now considered surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and the club will try to move him on this summer.
The former Feyenoord defender, valued at around £7million, will hopefully allow United to recoup some of the £13million they initially paid for him back in 2022.
Malacia signed a four-year contract upon joining United, which means the club must sell him for at least £3.22m to avoid incurring a loss under the league's profitability and sustainability regulations. However, it is understood that they are currently struggling to find any interested parties.
United are eager to offload Malacia, along with Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Antony this summer.
