Superstore star Jon Miyahara, who played Brett over six seasons of the workplace comedy, which is available to watch on ITVX, has died at the age of 83, his cast mate Colton Dunn, who played Garrett, confirmed. No cause of death has been revealed. Taking to Instagram he shared: "John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John."

Upon learning the news, more of his former colleagues rushed to share their sadness. Kelly Stables (Kelly) commented, "Oh man! He was always so sweet." Irene White (Carol), wrote, "What an incredible man." Michael Bunin (Jeff) also chimed in with his condolences, sharing: "I'm so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy."

Fans also expressed their sorrow in the comments. "He always cracked me up so much on that show. Superstore was such a comfort show for me when it came out I gotta do a rewatch soon," one wrote.

"Noooooooo. He was always my favorite character. I'm doing yet another watch through of the show, sad to hear," another added.

"Loved his character in Superstore. Gotta rewatch it one more time for him," a third commented followed by a heart emoji.

Jon appeared in 105 out of the 113 total episodes of Superstore, including the series premiere in 2015 and the highly praised 2021 finale.

He was part of one of the show's most iconic moments at the end of season two when viewers were led to believe Brett had been swept away by a tornado that destroyed the store.

At the start of season three, in an episode entitled Brett's Dead, his Cloud 9 colleagues held a memorial for him, which included a memorable rendition of Radiohead's Creep on the ukulele.

However it transpired their mourning was premature as he was in fact at work and very much alive.

When Superstore ended, Jon reprised the character on American Auto, confirming that the two NBC comedies existed in a shared universe.
