Co-op has announced plans to slash prices on bakery goods every day in a bid to reduce food waste. There are more than 2,000 Co-op stores across the UK, meaning that plenty of Brits will get to nab some discounted pastries after they finish work in the evening this winter. Co-op will slash the price of its bakery items by 50% every day at 6pm.
This applies to all loose and unpackaged bakery items, such as croissants and other pastries. You'll be able to pick them up for as little as 50p in store after 6pm. Similar moves have been made in supermarkets such as Tesco, where shoppers can get discounted pastries every day after 7pm every day. The discounts will be hard to resist as customers can grab butter croissants for 50p and white rustic rolls for 25p.
The deal will be available in all of Co-op's bakery sections across the country. Starting at 6pm, the discounts will apply until 11.59pm the same day or until stocks run out.
Brits might want to be quick, as similar deals in other supermarkets see baked goods flying off the shelves once they are discounted.
However, there is one catch to be aware of. The discounts are only available to Co-op members who sign up and make a one-off £1 payment. This is unlike Tesco, where the discounts apply to all customers. Co-op members receive that £1 back on their first food shop after signing up.
Charlotte Waring, a Co-op buyer, said: "As a convenience retailer, we know that we're there for those little shops at the end of the day, and our new Too Good To Waste initiative is a simple way to help our members save while also reducing food waste - so everyone can enjoy delicious bakery treats and do their bit for the planet."
The supermarket chain has also introduced other new benefits for members. This includes its new Indian Supersaver Deal, where members can buy two curry mains, two sides and a drink for £10.
Meanwhile, it has also announced discounts for members for Bonfire Night, offering bangers and mash (or chips) for two for £3.50.
