Due to continuous torrential rains, normal life has been disrupted. Rainwater has entered from roads to houses. It has affected everything from public transport to air traffic. Amidst all this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more than normal rainfall during the monsoon this time. On the other hand, a new low pressure has developed in the Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists say that it will get stronger in the coming 36 to 48 hours. It will gradually move northwards and start showing its effect. At the same time, a new western disturbance is expected in northwest India from May 29. Due to this, rain with strong winds has been predicted.

The monsoon is continuously taking new areas under its grip. This has particularly affected Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. Heavy rains are continuously occurring in various parts of these states. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a constant possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in many areas. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at some places in Kerala and Mahe, coastal Karnataka, and isolated places in South Karnataka from 27 May to 2 June and at some places in North Karnataka from 27-30 May along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in some places in Kerala from 27 to 30 May.

Low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal

A low-pressure area has formed in the northwest part of the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast. It is likely to move slowly northwards and become more clear during the next 48 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the west coast (Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, and Goa) during the next 6-7 days, Kerala during 27-30 May, and extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, coastal and Ghat areas of Karnataka, Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu on 27 May. Along with this, a new western disturbance is likely to arrive in northwest India on 29 May.

Bihar-Jharkhand will have to wait.

With the low-pressure system moving westward in the Bay of Bengal, the southwest monsoon is likely to advance. Its effect will be seen especially in Northeast India, West Bengal, and adjoining areas. Due to its effect, the progress of monsoon can be seen in states like Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim. However, this system will not go very deep from the coastal areas, so the effect of monsoon may remain limited to around Bihar and Jharkhand for the time being. These states will have to wait for the next 'pulse' of monsoon i.e. the new system. During this period, pre-monsoon activities will intensify in Odisha, South Chhattisgarh and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
