Former starlet has revealed how the treatment he got from top Italian coach Simone Inzaghi almost made him quit football.
Inzaghi, the Inter Milan boss who has led the giants into a second Final in three years, is regarded as being one of the best in the business. But Morrison, the maverick Mancunian midfielder who is now playing for the 14th club of his career in the second division of the United Arab Emirates, has described how the man nicknamed forced him to leave the hospital bed of his seriously ill mother during a nightmare four-year spell at Lazio in which he played just four games.
Morrison, now aged 32, has his own reputation for being a rebel without a cause. But he has told how Inzaghi’s cruelty took its toll after he had rushed back to England to care for his family.
Morrison said: “My mum’s appendix must have burst and poisoned her. She was on life-support - and to be fair, they (Lazio) didn’t even help as a club. I had a fall-out (with Inzaghi) because my mum was ill. I went back (home) and he told me to come back because he was going to start me in a game.
“I wasn’t going to leave my little brothers when I wasn’t playing. So obviously I stayed at home with my mum and I didn’t want to leave They (Lazio) knew all about it but they told me to come back because I was going to start a game.

“I was in the hospital with my gran and she told me to go back and play the game and then try to come back. So I went back - and I didn’t even get told to warm up.”
Morrison is now in Dubai after a career that started at Old Trafford and has taken him to clubs in Mexico, Sweden, Holland and the United States.
He was regarded by Sir as one of the biggest natural talents to emerge from the club’s academy. Hailing from the same Wythenshawe streets as and Cole Palmer, Morisson signed for Lazio in 2015 - only to run into a language barrier with Inzaghi that he was unable to cross. He eventually moved to Mexican club Atlas on loan.
Inzaghi will send Inter out to meet Paris Saint Germain in next Saturday’s final in Munich after losing to ’s in 2023.
And Morrison, talking to the ‘Undr the Cosh Podcast’, said: “There were three or four Dutch players who could speak English and three or four Spanish players who could speak English. But the management staff couldn’t speak English. So he (Inzaghi) was telling me what to do on the pitch in Italian and I didn’t have a clue what he was saying!
“I wanted to stay in Mexico but Lazio said ‘no.’ They wanted me to go back there to sign a one-year extension before going back to Atlas on loan.
“But I didn’t want to sign another year. Lazio was the lowest point. I was close to saying ‘I don’t want to play anymore’.”
