Man Utd predicted XI for Grimsby Carabao Cup clash as Ruben Amorim promises changes

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he will ring the changes for their Carabao Cup clash with Grimsby. The Red Devils are hoping to record their first win of the season, with the likes of Andre Onana and Kobbie Mainoo set to be involved.

When asked if he plans to make a number of changes for the game, Amorim said: "Yes. We have three games this week and we have quality players and we need to do rotation to try to win every game.

"It is a normal thing that happens in other clubs. We were not prepared to play in Europe this season — that is my feeling, to have strong games in Europe and play in the Premier League. But we need time to develop as a team.

"They [players] need to fight for the places, then, everything can change. Sometimes one is playing, at other moments, another is going to play. We have the cups, so there will be a lot of games for everybody.

"We need time to build a base and then in the future, to move forward. We will reach a moment where we need to have Europe for everybody to play games."

Goalkeeper Onana is expected to make his first appearance this season, with Altay Bayindir having been preferred ahead of him so far. Academy graduate Tyler Fredricson could also be in line for a start, having been an unused substitute against Arsenal and Fulham.

Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven may also form part of Amorim's back three, with Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu lining up as wing-backs. Mainoo is set to feature for the first time, with Manuel Ugarte likely to partner him in midfield.

New signing Benjamin Sesko is expected to make his first start up front, having only made appearances off the bench so far this season. Joshua Zirkzee may also make his first start in behind Sesko, while Bruno Fernandes could be pushed further forward.

United will be without Lisandro Martinez as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury, while Noussair Mazraoui is unlikely to be back in action before the international break. When asked about Mazraoui's availability, Amorim said: "No, maybe he is going to return next week.

"We will see, but he's near. We are just finishing some drills with him to be sure that he’s not going to have another problem."

Man Utd predicted XI: Onana; Fredricson, Maguire, Heaven; Dalot, Mainoo, Ugarte, Dorgu; Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
