Liam Gallagher makes defiant statement on conquering America live in New Jersey

Liam Gallagher blasted music execs who said Oasis would never crack America - as the band played a triumphant stadium gig in New Jersey at the weekend.

After wowing Chicago, the band played the MetLife Stadium with many fans saying it was the best they have ever heard them sound. On stage Liam insisted the band had finally ‘cracked America’ doing things their own way.

Speaking to fans, he said: “The record companies says you gotta play the game kids or you’ll be chopped liver. You gotta kiss some arse or you’ll be chopped liver.

“Well I can stand here tonight in front of you beautiful people in this magnificent stadium and tell you, you don’t have to play the f**king game.” He then introduced the band’s track Bring It On Down.

Music industry magazine Billboard was at the show and declared: “Oasis have finally conquered the States, territory that proved at least somewhat resistant to the band upon its first invasion in the mid-’90s.”.

They added the show “proved that Oasis had won the game, whether or not they’d ever really played it”, possibly in response to Liam’s jibe at music execs.

New Yorker Eric Nathan was amongst those who loved the show, which featured the same set list as the UK leg of the tour which kicked off in Cardiff.

He said: “That was the greatest concert of all time. Stunning. Cardiff was special but tonight I can’t put it into words. Never seen Liam and Noel chat so much and so happy on stage. A version of Don’t Look Back In Anger unlike ever done. Crowd was UNREAL loud. Like 10000/10.”

Other fans echoed the how good the sound was and also praised the US fans for “turning up” and singing loudly to some of the songs, something that was commonplace and taken for granted in the UK and Dublin.

Oasis albums never made number one in the US with their best chart position coming with 1997's Be Here Now, which secured No. 2.

But despite this they had a lot of success and 1995's (What's The Story) Morning Glory? achieved 4 x Platinum status according to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). In terms of chart singles, Wonderwall climbed to No.8 on the Billboard Hot 100, whilst the remainder failed to surpass Don't Look Back In Anger's No.55 position.

After playing two dates in New Jersey the band will move onto Los Angeles playing the Rose Bowl stadium and then head to Mexico.
