Navi Mumbai: A dog trapped for nearly two days in a 150-200 feet deep gorge near Landscape Point—opposite the popular Eco Point in Matheran—was successfully rescued on Monday evening by the Sahyadri Mitra Emergency Social Organization’s rescue team.
Cries From Gorge Prompt Local Alert
The operation, which began around 3 PM and concluded by 5:30 PM, was carried out under challenging and risky conditions. The dog had reportedly fallen into the gorge and was heard crying for help by local residents over the weekend.
The dog used to hide himself often which made the locals believe that the dog was out of that spot. But on Monday, the locals saw the dog stuck again and informed the rescue team.
Risky Two-Hour Rescue Operation
“The biggest challenge was winning the dog’s trust,” said Vaibhav Naik from the Matheran Sahyadri Rescue Team. “We lured him with biscuits to get close, then secured him with a harness and brought him up safely. This was our first dog rescue—earlier, we had rescued a cow.” The team of four were involved in the rescue of which two of them went down to rescue.
