Mumbai: Leena Gandhi Tewari, the chairperson of USV Pvt Ltd, has bought two sea-facing duplex apartments in Worli, Mumbai. The deal is worth Rs 639 crore, making it one of the most expensive home purchases in India.
The homes are located in the luxury tower Naman Xana, which has 40 floors. Tewari’s duplexes are spread across the 32nd to 35th floors. Together, the apartments cover 22,572 square feet.
Record-Breaking Price Per Square Foot
The cost per square foot for the deal is more than Rs 2.83 lakh. This is the highest ever in India’s real estate history.
In addition to the Rs 639 crore purchase price, Tewari paid over Rs 63.9 crore in stamp duty and GST. This brings the total cost to over Rs 700 crore.
Who Is Leena Gandhi Tewari?
Leena Gandhi Tewari leads USV Pvt Ltd, a major pharmaceutical and biotech company. It was started by her grandfather, Vithal Balkrishna Gandhi, in 1961.
Under her leadership, USV has grown to operate in more than 75 countries. In 2018, it bought Juta Pharma, a generics company in Germany.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University and an MBA from Boston University.

Tewari’s big buy is part of a trend. Other recent mega-deals in Mumbai include:
- Uday Kotak bought a full building in Worli for Rs 400+ crore in 2025.
- Yohan and Michelle Poonawalla got a 30,000 sq. ft. home in Cuffe Parade for Rs 500+ crore in 2024.
- DMart’s Radhakishan Damani’s group bought 28 homes in Worli for Rs 1,238 crore in 2023.
