The Fact Check unit of the Press Information Bureau has refuted a 'news' which said that the airline route between Delhi and Mumbai is temporarily shut down, news agency ANI reported on May 10. In a statement shared on X, the PIB Fact Check labeled the assertion as "fake." In reality, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has prolonged the temporary suspension of 25 Air Traffic Service (ATS) route segments within the Flight Information Regions of Delhi and Mumbai for operational reasons.
The post clarified, “There are claims regarding a temporary closure of services on the Delhi-Mumbai airline route. This assertion is false. The Airports Authority of India has extended the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions due to operational considerations.”
In a related development, sources indicated that Indian strikes targeted at least four airbases in Pakistan during the early hours of Saturday, amid rising tensions between the two nations. These retaliatory strikes by India were initiated following an attack by Pakistan on 26 different locations across India on the same day, as reported by ANI. Ongoing intermittent firing is occurring at various locations along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Ministry of Defence issued a statement noting, “Drones have been spotted at 26 locations along the International Border and the Line of Control with Pakistan, including suspected armed drones. The areas affected include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala. Unfortunately, an armed drone struck a civilian area in Ferozpur, injuring members of a local family. Medical assistance has been provided to the injured, and security forces have sanitized the area.”
The Ministry further emphasized that “the Indian Armed Forces are on high alert, with all aerial threats being monitored and addressed through counter-drone systems. The situation is under continuous observation, and prompt action is being taken as required. Citizens, particularly those living in border areas, are urged to stay indoors, minimize unnecessary movement, and adhere strictly to safety guidelines from local authorities. While there is no cause for alarm, increased vigilance and precaution are crucial,” the statement added.
On Friday, a day after Indian air defenses successfully thwarted an attempt by Pakistan to target civilian infrastructure along the LoC and the International Border, more Pakistani drones were detected in the Jammu, Samba, and Pathankot sectors. During the night of May 7-8, Indian forces effectively neutralized a large-scale drone and missile assault from Pakistan aimed at several Indian military installations in the northern and western regions of the country. Additionally, an air defense system located in Lahore was also targeted during these operations. Previously, India had conducted precise strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in response to an earlier terror attack in Pahalgam, which was viewed as an escalation by Pakistan. In response to Pakistan's increased military actions, the Indian Defence Forces have been taking appropriate countermeasures.
