The bank has announced that now there will be no punitive charge for not maintaining minimum average balance (MAB) in savings accounts. This decision has come into effect from July 1, 2025. Its direct benefit will be given to those account holders, whose account balance is often low.

Women, farmers and poor will get the most benefit

Punjab National Bank has clarified that this initiative has been taken especially for women, farmers, laborers and low income group families. According to the bank, this step has been taken with the aim of promoting financial inclusion, so that priority sections can be connected to banking services.

All facilities will be available even without balance

Now customers will be able to avail the basic services of the bank despite having zero balance. This includes depositing money, withdrawing money, mobile banking, passbook update, UPI transactions and other digital facilities. The aim of the bank is that customers do not have to face the compulsion of staying away from banking.

Punjab National Bank Managing Director and CEO Ashok Chandra said, "This decision is a strong step towards inclusive and responsible banking. Removing the minimum balance charge will reduce the financial pressure on customers and increase their participation in the banking network."
